How to prepare for a boudoir photo shoot

Congratulations, you booked a boudoir photo shoot.  One item checked off on your bucket list and your portraits will make a great gift for that special loved one.  Below are some Do's and Don'ts to help you prepare for your shoot.

  • Pre Shoot Meetup - Recommend meeting the photography team for a pre shoot meeting at our studio.  We understand you will be nervous, so we like to meet in advance to get to know you and find out what your looking for. This will give you a chance to see the studio and view our various studio rooms.

  • Skin - Do not apply any tanners, gels, or lotions and stay out of the sun 5 days prior to your shoot.  The camera makes tanners look orange and you don't want to have weird looking skin in your portraits.  The sun will make your skin look red and of course tan lines can be difficult to enhance in Photoshop.  If you have tan lines, don't worry, just relax and have fun during your shoot.

  • If you wax, please make sure to do so a couple of days before you shoot to avoid redness or bumpiness.  Only use clear deodorant.

  • Drink plenty of water days before your shoot for shiney skin.  Avoid any alcohol prior to the shoot as it may make your eyes look droopy.

  • Wardrobe - Wear loose fitting clothing to the boudoir studio, this will help prevent any impression or markings on your skin from tight fitting clothing.  Skip the bra, belts, watches, tight jeans.  You will want to feel relaxed and this will make any lingerie pr outfit you are going to shoot in look that much better.

  • Remove any tags you have on the outfits you bring.  You don't want them showing in your portraits.

  • Spend time trying on outfits before your shoot, of course you want to look amazing so this will give you an excuse to go shopping.  You're spending time and money on your boudoir shoot and the last thing you want is a rip or tear in your stockings or outfit.  Some outfits you haven't worn in awhile may give you a surprise at the shoot, so be prepared. You don't want any whoops moments during the shoot.

The day of your shoot you want to feel sexy, confident and ready to rock. Bring outfits that make you feel sexy, not what you think looks sexy.  If you are uncomfortable with your outfit, this will show in your body language.

  • Makeup - We do offer professional makeup artists to prepare you for your shoot (optional cost).  If you decide you want a professional makeup artist, please contact us 5 days prior to the shoot so we can schedule.  Schedule at least an hour prior to the shoot if you decide to use our makeup artist.  Do get your hair, makeup, and nails professionally done, you will want to look perfect for the camera.

  • Have Fun! - I will have blue tooth speakers available so bring any music that helps you get into the mood and feel relaxed and comfortable, or we can use my selection.  Feel free to bring a mini bottle of wine if you like. You will want to have fun and feel relaxed.  Allow yourself plenty of time to make it to the studio to eliminate stress from weather or traffic. The Studio address is 821 York Street, Newport, KY 41071.
